Local musician Christopher Brown was born and raised in Springhill, but his lovely young family now call Oxford home. Chris is an award-winning musician who plays guitar, drums and piano and is also a very talented singer and songwriter. Chris co-wrote the song “Oblivion” with Dana Beeler, Carleton Stone and Rankin MacInnis and had a vision for a professionally produced music video to accompany the song. Chris then contacted Cumberland County based marketing and video production company Nova Social Media & Marketing to help bring his vision to life.
Patrick Manifold, who directed the music video, said “Chris is a great guy and a very talented musician with a lovely family, so we were happy to help create a video that would bring more awareness to his song and help him chase his dreams.” The video was shot on location at Triders Craft Beer in Amherst, but you wouldn’t know that by watching the video as it was transformed into “Uptown Brainwash”, a fictional business that helps people forget their problems through a strange type of musical therapy.
The female lead in the video was played by Amherst native, Brianna Voss – a talented actress and highly skilled makeup artist who owns her own makeup business called Beat by Briana V. Brianna told us “I got to work with some amazing local talent, and seeing this production come to life from behind the scenes makes me so proud to be from Amherst – everyone worked so hard!
Also in the video was Brown’s longtime friend and fellow Springhiller, Joe Potter, who is a talented musician himself, as well as co-owner of popular local brewery, Triders Craft Beer. Liam Black also appeared in the video, and despite being new to acting, was very convincing in his role.
In the lead up to the official release of the video, there was a lot of buzz created and people from all over Nova Scotia were talking about it. MLA for Cumberland South, Tory Rushton even mentioned the video as well as all the people involved in its creation in the Nova Scotia Legislature in Halifax, stating that “Our communities are very proud of Chris and his accomplishments and talent… we can’t wait to see what’s next!”
The video had an official release party hosted by Triders that welcomed friends, fans and local leaders, including Mayor of Cumberland County, Murray Scott who was happy to show his support. The video then premiered on Facebook and YouTube and received very high praise from many people.
Cumberland Life asked Chris about the video, and he said “I am so pleased to have the music video for Oblivion out in the world. The song and accompanying video were a true labour of love and I could not have done it without the support of Music Nova Scotia, Patrick Manifold, Joe Potter, Brianna Voss and Liam Black, as well as my beautiful family who supported me every step of the way. Thank you to the community as a whole who have embraced the song and who – along with my family – continue to inspire me to keep chasing my dreams and doing what I love.”
