Since being elected Dr. Stephen Ellis has been fighting for Cumberland County at parliament in Ottawa. Anything from a small pothole so deep that it tore out your ball joint, to having areas rezoned for industrial use, he is there for the people of Cumberland County. Dr. Ellis knows and understands how important every voice is, even the ones so low no one pays attention to. He wants to strive to ensure even the lowest voice is amplified so it is heard by all in the house. No concern is too small, and no voice should be louder than any other. Whether it was helping in the fight to finally remove the tolls for Nova Scotians at the Cobequid pass, or ensuring that we are all seen and heard here, just as much as we would in other parts of the province.
Dr. Stephen Ellis has been a family physician for the last 22 years in Truro, Nova Scotia. Currently as well as the MP for Nova Scotia he is also serving as a medical lead for the COVID-19 response in the Northern Zone. Money was always tight being born into a modest but hardworking family, but their work ethic was always strong. Because of this he enrolled in Canadian Armed Forces’ Medical Officer Training program to fulfill his goal of becoming a physician. After spending nine years in the RCAF, Dr. Ellis attained the rank of Captain. He also currently serves as Honorary Colonel of the North Nova Scotia Highlanders.
Dr. Ellis believes volunteerism helps sustain rural communities, and he has passionately supported Walk with a Doc, the Bible Hill Fire Brigade, Scouts Canada, Minor Hockey, and the Guatemala Outreach Project. He has been married to Deborah for 30+ years. They have three children and two grandchildren.
