he Association of Nova Scotia Museums (ANSM) is a registered non-profit organization, working in partnership with museums, communities and supporters.
Curator Sean Smith is looking forward to welcoming visitors with the happy news that “Ottawa House By-The-Sea Museum has been awarded accreditation from Association of Nova Scotia Museums” Smith also credited long time curator Susan Clarke, who retired last year. “Susan spent over 25 years getting the Museum to the point where we could receive accreditation – this is really a big part of her legacy.’
It has been an involved process checking and double-checking documents, ensuring governance standards were met, and proper practices in place. Evaluators toured the Museum and witnessed firsthand the work completed by staff and volunteers. The announcement comes just before Ottawa House By-the-Sea is set to open on June 4th for the 2022 season with entrance fees for 2022 being $7.00 for adults except Sunday which is $5.00. Senior, student/group member: $5.00, including Special Speaker events.
The staff and volunteers at Ottawa House By-the-Sea Museum are looking forward to welcoming people from around the world to share this honor and very happy to have the Age of Sail Heritage Centre, Colchester Historeum, The Army Museum, Cole Harbour Heritage Farm Museum, Kings County Museum, Mahone Bay Museum, Margaret Fawcett Norrie Heritage Centre, Memory Lane Heritage Village join them as Accredited Nova Scotia Museums. Museums must repeat the process every 4 years to maintain their status.
The Parrsborough Shore Historical Society owns and operates The Ottawa House By-The-Sea Museum in Parrsboro. Representing an important segment of Cumberland County’s history at the time of Confederation, it illustrates mid-eighteenth-century architecture, economic and cultural development. It is believed to be the oldest building on the Parrsboro Shore and one of the oldest buildings in the province of Nova Scotia. The museum offers visitors a chance to learn, relax and appreciate the natural surrounding it sits in.
